
Kelly Lochbaum: From Football Fields to Education Assistant

Kelly Lochbaum's Successful Football Career
Kelly Lochbaum's journey began at WJ Mouat Secondary School. His talent on the football field took him to California, where he played at Butte College. His impressive performance earned him a scholarship to Northern Arizona University. In 1997, Kelly was picked by the BC Lions, a professional football team. He played with them for 10 years and also spent a year with the Calgary Stampeders. Kelly was a leader on the field, playing as a linebacker and special teams captain.
Transition from Football to Education in Abbotsford
After retiring from professional football, Kelly found a new calling in education. He completed his practicum at Columbia Bible College and was recently hired by the Abbotsford School District as an education assistant. Kelly's transition from sports to education was driven by his long-standing passion for coaching and mentoring young people. For Kelly, working with kids and helping them succeed is not just a job—it's something he loves to do every day.
Kelly Lochbaum's Passion for Coaching and Mentoring
Kelly has been coaching football for over 30 years. He enjoys teaching kids and helping them feel confident. During his time with the BC Lions, Kelly participated in many programs for kids, such as reading and writing programs and mentoring with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. One memorable experience involved staying in scaffolding during a thunderstorm to sign up 28 new mentors.
Making a Difference at Prince Charles Elementary School
Kelly understands that not every child has a supportive home environment. He strives to be a positive influence in their lives. Seeing the kids he helps become more confident and excited brings Kelly great joy.
Paul Allanson, the Principal at Prince Charles Elementary School, shared his thoughts on Kelly's impact: "Kelly Lochbaum has been a welcome addition to our staff. He just finished up his practicum here at Prince Charles Elementary and is now taking on an extended leave here at the school. The kids have adjusted well to having him here, and he's adjusted fantastically. It's been great to have him in the building."
