Honouring Success: Meet the Stellar Recipients of the ABC Recognition Program

What is the ABC Recognition Program?

The ABC Recognition Program honours employees in the District who contribute to the educational community in four categories every year. This initiative acknowledges teachers and staff who demonstrate leadership excellence, innovation, student support, and collaboration. By recognizing these exceptional individuals, the program aims to foster a culture of dedication, inclusivity, and continuous improvement in schools.

The HR department announced the recipients of the ABC Recognition Program at the Long Term Service Award Night on February 6, 2025.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

Recognizing individuals who enhance student experiences by promoting equity and inclusion, improving safety, refining processes, and reducing environmental impact.

🏆 Recipient: Lukis Kind, Teacher, Rick Hansen Secondary

Lukis Kind has profoundly influenced the school community by advocating for students who struggle to have their voices heard. As the Pride Alliance ambassador, he founded a Pride Club and introduced the Pride Award, which acknowledges students' contributions to inclusivity. Thanks to Lukis, every student feels safe, seen, and proud of who they are.

Leadership Excellence

Honoring individuals who inspire and motivate through collaboration, mindfulness, and resilience, fostering an inclusive and supportive culture.

🏆 Recipient: Doug Primrose, Teacher, Yale Secondary

With 18 years of dedication, Doug Primrose has been a pillar of leadership at Yale Secondary. As a leadership teacher, rugby coach, and athletic director, he has positively impacted students' athletic, leadership, and personal growth. His leadership class organizes the annual "Live to Give" event, which raises $15,000 for BC Children's Hospital. Additionally, he serves as president of the Fraser Valley Rugby Association and the BC Student Leadership Association, further demonstrating his commitment to student development.

Supporting Student Success

Recognizing individuals who go above and beyond to support student achievement in academics, emotional well-being, and social independence.

🏆 Recipient: Cyndi Orth, ISW, Yale Secondary

Cyndi Orth has played a vital role in guiding students toward post-secondary success, boasting an impressive 100% graduation rate. She developed a breakfast program, ensured students had the necessary resources, and organized trips to future academic institutions. Her efforts have contributed to Yale Secondary being the highest recipient of Indigenous scholarships.

Team Collaboration

Honouring teams that work together to improve student experiences and outcomes.

🏆 Recipients: Marisa Meola & Katie Savage, EA & YCW, Yale Secondary

Marisa Meola and Katie Savage have led Feeding Futures, a program that addresses student food insecurity at Yale Secondary. Their commitment ensures that all students have access to nutritious meals, creating a more inclusive and supportive school environment. Marisa's voluntary work and Katie's dedication to the Starfish program have significantly enhanced student well-being and academic performance.
